RARE & INTERESTING Charles I 'Hate Scratched' Shilling Silver, 5.28 grams; 29.03 mm. Tower Mint under the king, Mintmark Cross cavalry, Circa 1625 - 1626. Obverse: Type 2 bust facing left, large crown, outer arch only jeweled. Reverse: Cross fourchee over square topped shield. The bust has been defaced and punched and the field of the coin intentionally scratched as a hate token by a roundhead, a follower of Oliver Cromwell and parliament, adversary of the king. S. 2782.
