The word Medieval originates from two Latin words meaning ‘middle age’. This is the time in the middle between classical (Roman) times and the modern world. In England it lasted for about 400 years from the Norman invasion of 1066. Many Medieval buildings still stand, like churches and castles, but it is the small finds like the ones on the links below, that tell us how people actually lived. The most important people in Medieval England were connected to the king and the church.
