In Greek and Roman mythology, Apollo was the archer-god of medicine and healing, light, truth, archery and also a bringer of death-dealing plague.

As the patron of Delphi, Apollo was an oracular god. He was the prophetic deity of the Delphic Oracle, as well as one of the most important and many-sided of the Olympian deities. Apollo also had dominion over colonists, over medicine (mediated through his son Asclepius), and was the patron defender of herds and flocks. As the leader of the Muses (Apollon Musagetes) and director of their choir, he is a god of music and poetry. Hymns sung to Apollo were called paeans.

Apollo is son of Zeus and Leto, and has a twin sister, the chaste huntress, Artemis, who took the place of Selene in some myths as goddess of the moon.

The Roman god of wine and intoxication, equated with the Greek Dionysus. His festival was celebrated on March 16 and 17. The Bacchanalia, orgies in honor of Dionysus, were introduced in Rome around 200 B.C. These infamous celebrations, notorious for their sexual and criminal character, got so out of hand that they were forbidden by the Roman Senate in 186 B.C. Bacchus is also identified with the old-Italian god Liber. Bacchus was also the god of the theatre, since the first plays in Greece were performed in his honour. There were tragedies, serious stories about heroes and gods, and comedies, which laughed at politicians as were often very rude!

Mercury had essentially the same aspects as the Greek Hermes, wearing a winged petasos, carrying purse, chlamys and carrying the caduceus, a herald's staff with two entwined snakes that was Apollo's gift to Hermes. He was often accompanied by a cockerel, herald of the new day, a ram or goat, symbolizing fertility, and a tortoise, referring to Mercury's legendary invention of the lyre from a tortoise shell. Like Hermes, he was also a messenger of the gods and a god of trade, peculiarly of the grain trade. Mercury was also considered a god of abundance and commercial success, particularly in Gaul.

Tali is commonly known today as Knucklebones, it was perhaps the most popular game played among the Romans. It resembled the game of dice except that sets of marked bones were used, called Tali. Tali was inherited from the ancient Greeks, who had originally made the pieces from astragaloi, or the knucklebones of sheep or goats. The original shape of the tali, however, was preserved.

Carnelian really does have a unique look to it and the myths surrounding it are interesting. It is opaque or translucent to transparent light orange to deep brownish rust red, often found with some white color. It has long been reputed to bring luck, protection, and comfort. Egyptians believed that carnelian helps Ka(the soul) to find it’s way to the next world after death. Isis was to believed to protect deads with carneoli amulet called Thet. Carnelian is said to be a motivation stone and some have called it the "self-esteem stone." Certainly, gemstone beads of carnelian would give the wearer better self-esteem just by their beauty alone.
