A leading expert at the Fitzwilliam Museum at Cambridge university writes: "This is a coin of David I of Scotland (North 909), reading [ ]ID RE[ ] on the obverse, and [ ]ALD:[ ] on the reverse. The mint is Carlisle or (more probably) Edinburgh, and the moneyer is Erebald".
