Dobunni Celtic Coins for Sale

The Dobunni tribe’s capital was Cornivum Dobvnnirvm which was located at Cirencester, Gloucestershire. The tribal territory was West Oxon, Gloucestershire, North Somerset, Avon and south parts of Hertfordshire and Worcestershire. These were a non Belgic people occupying impressive hillforts with some Belgic influences.

Silver, 1.28 grams; 14.37 mm. Circa 35 – 30 B.C. Obverse: Celticized head right, pellet in ring for eye, two reversed S forms in front of face with the hair made up of crescent’s. Reverse: Celticized horse left with corn bundel below horse, symbols around. Celtic Coin Index Registration Number at Oxford University: CCI 08.8822. VA 1020-1 variant. Recorded as Extremely Rare in Van Arsdell’s Celtic Coinage of Britain. Good very fine. Found Hampshire.
