Cantiaci Celtic Coins~
Cantiaci Celtic Coins for Sale
Dvromernum Cantiacorvm, the Cantiaci Tribe’s capital, was served by a port three miles down the Stour at Fordwich. Amminus (Adminius) apparently minted a coin with a Durovernon mint-mark. The capital was located in Canterbury and their territory was Cantium now known as Kent. Caesar thought them to be the most civilized tribe in Britain, and recorded four kings each ruling a minor kingdom; Cingetorix, Carvilius, Taximagulas, Segovax. Strong Belgic influence.

Dubnovellaunus introduction~
Dubnovellaunus (Late 1st Century B.C.)
Perhaps one of several kings of the Cantiaci in the latter half of the first century B.C., but certainly the first to issue inscribed coins. Towards the end of his period of rule, before the coins of Eppillus appeared on the scene in the initial years of the first century A.D., other nobles issued inscribed coinage in Cantium. He could feasibly have been the second suppliant British king mentioned in the Augustan records.

Dr Philip De Jersey writes:
"In common with all of Dubnovellaunos's coinages this is a reasonably scarce type, with 25 examples recorded in the CCI...they are very uniform in style and appearance, so much so that it seems unlikely that more than one die-engraver worked on the type. He represented at least one feature of the design in a rather curious way: the wing of the Pegasus on the obverse appears to be curled up, and often projects from the back of the neck rather than the back of the horse's body. The style of the horse on the reverse is almost a mirror-image of an uninscribed Kentish bronze type, VA 154-1, and it seems likely that the same die-engraver worked on that series too". SOLD
