Anglo Saxon Cruciform Brooches for sale~
Anglo Saxon Cruciform & Long Brooches for sale

During the 5th century the late Roman crossbow fibula was adapted by the Anglo Saxons into a new style representing the final development of the fibula Square Headed Brooch. This was the Cruciform Anglo Saxon Brooch, Anglo Saxon Square Headed Brooch and the Radiate Headed style Brooches. From the Anglo Saxon Brooches that have been excavated from pagan burials it has been possible to provide a sequence of dating starting with a quite simple forms of Cruciform Brooch in the 5th and 6th centuries, and developing into the richly ornamented types of Anglo Saxon Brooch in the later 6th and early 7th centuries. A smaller form of Anglo Saxon fibula brooch is referred to as a Small Long Brooch. These brooches were normally worn in pairs at the shoulder.
