Unfortunately the ancient art market is cursed with inexperienced and unscrupulous people selling fakes. These items normally look better than the genuine artefact to the inexperienced eye, they are invariably undamaged and are more colourful. Under UK law, export licences are required for all ancient items travelling outside of the European Union [EU]. We make your application to The Museums, Libraries and Archives Council free of charge. Although this results in a delay, this export document ensures that your item is exported legally, and we believe it gives you additional comfort that your item is 100% authentic as described. Export licences are only required for EU countries if the item was excavated from UK soil.
